This popular hike is approximately a 2.5 mile loop trail. The ground is packed and often rocky, and may be muddy and slippery days after a rainfall. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 hr 9 min to complete the loop, though we may take it slower. In any case, we will rest at the boulder field and draw there. This trail may be highly unsuitable for those with standing or walking difficulties. May be highly unsuitable for younger children or older folks who tire easily.
We will rest and draw at the boulder field. Scramble across and sit atop the boulders, or sit lower on the ground, at your own risk. Please share the trail and boulders with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Participants must carry their trash out.
Each student is also responsible for:
- Bringing their own drawing field kit: A field kit consists of a sketch or drawing pad, scrap paper for handguards, drawing pencils, sharpener, eraser, and duster. We also encourage you to bring along color pencils. Pack these items in a waterproof plastic bag or bin.
- Packing necessary safety items for outdoor activities: hat or umbrella, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottles, snacks, sensible walking/hiking shoes (no sandals!!), and access to your private first aid kit. Don’t forget to charge your phone and bring your camera! We also encourage bringing waterproof seating (outdoor cushions, picnic blanket, etc.)
- Securing their own transportation to/from the park.
Please be mindful of the weather. Check your weather service for the day’s forecast and dress accordingly. Keep in mind you may be hiking! The AAHP reserves the right to cancel on short notice if weather conditions are not optimal.
One portable out toilet stall is available near the parking lot. Bring your own toilet paper, just in case.
